VALUE CHAIN

PROVIDING VALUE
Twala Farming is a Zambian-based agricultural enterprise that grows commercial crops and produces high-quality compost for local farmers. Here is a breakdown of the various stages of the value chain of making compost for Twala Farming.

inputs
The first stage of the value chain involves sourcing feedstock, such as agricultural waste and other organic materials like maize cobs. These inputs are homegrown and sourced from local farmers.
Composting
Once the inputs have been sourced, Twala Farming turns the feedstock into high-quality compost. This is done by carefully monitoring the feedstock ratios, temperatures and moisture to create a high-quality fungal-dominated compost that is packed with beneficial microbes and an ideal soil amendment.

Quality Control
Twala Farming places a strong emphasis on quality control. Every batch of compost undergoes rigorous testing to ensure that it meets the company's high standards. This ensures that farmers receive a consistent and reliable product that is guaranteed to improve their soil health.
Distribution
Twala Farming distributes its compost to smallholder, emergent and commercial farmers across Mkushi. The company works with a network of partners, including the Agricultural Knowledge Training Centre and the Mkushi Farmers Association, to distribute its products to smallholder and emergent farmers. This ensures that the benefits of Twala's compost are accessible to as many farmers as possible.

Use
Farmers use Twala's compost as a soil amendment to improve the health and fertility of their soils. This leads to increased crop yields and better resilience against climatic extremes. The use of Twala's compost also supports a circular economy by reducing waste and utilizing local resources.
Market Access
As more farmers begin to use Twala's compost, they are able to access new markets and increase their incomes. This creates a positive feedback loop that helps to drive economic growth and reduce poverty in rural communities.

A SYSTEM THAT BENEFITS EVERYONE
Overall, Twala Farming's value chain is designed to create a sustainable and fair agricultural system that benefits farmers, communities, and the environment. By focusing on high-quality compost and strong partnerships, Twala is making a significant impact on Zambia's agricultural sector.
